Photographing polar bears on the Svalbard pack ice is equal parts patience and awe — hours of scanning white-on-white, then a bear materializes out of the floes, utterly at home in a world that would kill anything else. These polar bear prints come from the high Arctic summer, at a respectful distance, in the bears’ own element.
